If your AC has suddenly broken down, you might feel like you’re melting under the scorching Ohio summer sun. Hopefully, you’ve already called Huber Heights Heating & Cooling for help—we offer 24-hour emergency services all year round. Our dedicated NATE-certified technicians are available 365 days a year to provide excellent customer service, especially when you need it most!
You can trust us to get there as soon as we can. However, while you’re waiting for your technician to arrive, you might be uncomfortable and looking for ways to cool down you and your family as much as possible.
While you wait for our technicians, here are some handy tips to stay cool:
- Flip Your Ceiling Fans Counter-clockwise
- Close Your Blinds and Drapes
- Limit Opening Exterior Doors
- Open Windows at Night
- Skip Using Heat-Inducing Appliances
- Create a DIY Temporary AC
Stay cool, and hang tight! Here’s how you can find some relief in the meantime:
- Flip Your Ceiling Fans to Counter-Clockwise: Most ceiling fans are set to spin clockwise, pushing air down for that nice cool breeze when the AC is on. But with the AC out, try switching your fans to a counterclockwise motion. This pulls up the cool air and spreads it around the room, making it a bit more comfortable. Not sure where the switch is? It’s usually on the base of your ceiling fan.
- Close Your Blinds and Drapes: To keep the sunlight out and your home cool, make sure to close all your blinds, drapes, or any other window treatments. Don’t forget to shut the windows too; during the day, a cross-breeze won’t do much to keep the warm air out.
- Limit Opening Exterior Doors: Try to keep the front, back, basement, and garage doors closed as much as possible. This helps keep the cool air inside and prevents warm air from sneaking in.
- Open Windows at Night: When the temps drop in the evening, it’s a great time to cool down your home. So, go ahead and crack those windows open to let the cool air in. Just don’t forget to close them back up in the morning!
- Skip Using Heat-Inducing Appliances: Using things like the stove, dryer, and dishwasher will just make your home hotter. If you can, try not to use them while you’re waiting for your AC to get fixed!
- Create a DIY Temporary AC: Okay, this last tip is a bit on the “creative” side, but sometimes creativity leads to cool results—literally! You can make a makeshift AC by placing a big bowl of ice in front of an electric fan. The fan will blow air over the ice, cooling it down as it passes. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy your DIY cool breeze while we handle getting your AC back up and running!
